The Littlest Rebel (1935)
Good film
The troubles of the Civil War come home to a little plantation girl when her father is arrested and charged with espionage against the Yankees. Only a plea to Mr. Lincoln can save the day.The Littlest Rebel is also a spirited musical comedy. Co- starring Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, it's packed with throughly delightful musical numbers including Shirley's unforgettable version of "Polly Wolly Doodle". Shirley really is a beautiful little girl.
Dora's Dunking Doughnuts (1933)
Funny little film
A doughnut shop in money trouble is saved when the school music class appear on radio to promote the doughnuts. Shirley looks beautiful in this film. Shirley hasn't really got a big part in this, but when she does, she is brilliant!!!
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947)
One of Shirley's best films
Judge Margaret Turner (Myrna Loy), is alarmed when her precocious teenage daughter Susan (Shirley Temple), develops a crush on Dick Nugent (Cary Grant), a roguish art lecturer. Margaret orders Nugent to indulge Susan's crush hoping it will play itself out. However, the judge reluctantly finds herself increasingly attracted to the object of her daughter's desire......
The Little Princess (1939)
Shirley Temple was one of the most(cont)
popular child stars in the history of cinema, the number one attraction from 1935 to 1938 (Clark Gable was merely second). She was considered a genuine child prodigy, and in 1934, at the age of SIX, she won a special Academy Award for the eight big grossing films she made that year. In "The Little Princess" a fairytale set in Victorian London, Shirley plays an army waif not believing her father died in the war. She seeks him out in one of her most memorable films-touching, charming with a happy ending. Stars Mary Nash as Miss Minchin (Head of girls school, in which Shirley attends) Arthur Treacher as Bertie (Miss Minchin's brother) Not very famous child actress Sybil Jason as Becky (a servant at the school and shirley's friend) The beautiful Anita Louise as Miss Rose (a teacher at the school) And heartthob of the 30's Cesar Romero as Ram Dass (servant and friend of Shirley's)
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938)
Shirley lights up the screen....again!
Shirley temple at her peak as a girl singer who is sought by two rival cereal companies to promote their radio commercials.Randolph Scott and Gloria Stuart provide the romance. Helen Westley, Slim Summerville and William Demarest head the supporting cast but it is 9 year old Shirley's movie from first to last, full of charm and innocence and loosely adapted from the childrens classic by Kate Douglas Wiggan. Shirley's numbers include "Come and get your happiness" and she also sings a medley of hits from her previous movies (among them On the good ship lollipop, When Im with you, Animal crackers in my soup and more)and dances with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. running time 71 mins b&w
