He was awarded the C.M. (Member of the Order of Canada) on November 3, 2011 and invested on May 25, 2012 from the Canadian Governor General for his services to Canada. He was a professional jazz musicians. He was committed to mentoring the next generation of jazz musicians. He funded scholarships for advanced musical training and founded an ensemble to provide high-quality performance opportunities for young African-Canadian students. He also shares his personal experiences with them by showing them how jazz is an integral part of the musical and cultural heritage of the Black community in Canada.
