Michael Mann has been clear that 1995's "Heat" is a drama and not a crime movie. But even when the audience is in on the mystery from the very start, and knows what the criminals are planning, Mann is able to make the story compelling through the characters' cat-and-mouse investigation of each other.

As was one of Mann's goals for the film, "Heat" paints a full picture of the private lives of Al Pacino's Vicent Hanna and Robert De Niro's Neil McAuley. Consistent with the film's title, Hanna's escalating efforts to subdue McAuley drive the plot, with each constantly trying to outsmart the other. Only at great cost does Hanna finally catch McCauley. In Mann's other films, like "Thief" (1981), "Collateral" (2004), and "Miami Vice" (2006) — though he rotates between spending time with cops, criminals, or civilians — characters are similarly in regular search for insight into how their enemy operates.

Like many low budget action films, there is a constant, uneasy tension between ambition and what is possible. Hustle Down is aiming to be a Michael Mann thriller, but the constraints constantly degrade the experience. Whether it is low budget cameras, direction, or uneven acting.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has picked up North American rights to Hustle Down, R. Ellis Frazier’s action-comedy, and will release theatrically in October.

The deal was struck with Ultramedia, which is handling international sales rights and screening the pic in Cannes.

The movie stars Tom Sizemore (Heat), Paul Sidhu (Repeater), Bai Ling (Crank: High Voltage), Kevin Gage (Heat), Raymond J. Barry (Training Day), Vanessa Angel (Weird Science), and Noel Gugliemi.

A few years ago, Fearnet debuted a unique web series, starring Robert Englund, called "Fear Clinic." Englund played Dr. Andover, a doctor who tried to cure his patients of crippling fears in a manner which is often worse than the disease. The series won two Streamy Awards and great critical acclaim - so much so that it is now being made into a feature film.

Robert Hall directs the feature-length continuation of Dr. Andover and his unorthodox methods. Robert Englund returns as Dr. Andover, and is joined by Fiona Dourif (Curse of Chucky), Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Kevin Gage (Laid to Rest), and Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Anchor Bay has picked up the rights to distribute the film, which is still in production.

The Fear Clinic feature explores several different phobias manifested by the lead characters, all of which stem from the same traumatic experience.

Filming started on Fear Clinic earlier this month and we’ve now been told that principle photography has wrapped. To help celebrate, the first official stills have been released, featuring Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, and Robert Hall.

“Fear Clinic began as a 2009 horror series for FearNet that consisted of five episodes starring up-and-coming talent like Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) and Kate Nauta (Transporter 2) as well as horror icons Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4) and Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees). In 2009 FearNet launched “Fear Clinic,” a horror series starring Robert Englund as Dr. Andover, a fear doctor who induces hallucinations in patients dealing with crippling phobias using his “Fear Chamber.” Now a feature version is on its way and we have your first look right here.

For the film Robert Englund will reprise his role as Dr. Andover, Fiona Dourif will play Sara Falls, a young woman who seeks the help of Dr. Andover after her phobias begin to reemerge. Thomas Dekker will play Blake Patton, a disabled man who survives a terrible tragedy and is subsequently brought to the clinic. Also cast is Cleopatra Coleman (Step Up: Revolution), who will play Sara’s best friend, Megan McAllister, who possesses a fear of spiders. Rounding out the cast will be Angelina Armani () and Kevin Gage (Heat).

The series consisted of a mere five episodes, but now writer/director Robert Hall and writer Aaron Drane are bringing it to the big screen with a new crop of subjects, including Curse of Chucky's Fiona Dourif (pictured) and “Secret Circle” star Thomas Dekker.

It has been announced that a feature version of Fear Clinic will begin filming next month. We already knew that Robert Englund would be back as Dr. Andover and we now have word that a number of actors have joined the cast, including Curse of Chucky’s Fiona Dourif:

Towards the end of my review of last week’s episode of Banshee, I wondered if Ana really would turn Lucas Hood over to her father Mr. Rabbit, or if her affections for him would weigh too heavily upon her. As it turned out, episode seven left no time for such pondering, and after an instalment which felt a little thin, Banshee returned to its plot-stuffed lightning pace once more.

With filmmaker Sean Cain having recently wrapped his "sorority girls vs. dinosaurs" flick Jurassic Block, we sat down to chat with the affable writer and director regarding the project. Read on for more, including several stills and a look behind the scenes!

Written and directed by Cain (whose previous genre features include Silent Night, Zombie Night and Breath of Hate), Jurassic Block is produced by Anthony Fankhuaser and J.J. With the recent Blu-ray release of Lightning Bug from Image Entertainment, I had a chance to talk with star Ashley Laurence and director Robert Hall. You may know Robert Hall from his effects work or Laid to Rest movies, but his first directorial effort was Lightning Bug in 2004 and it’s not what most people would have expected from him. During our interview time, I talked to him about going with a drama over an effects-heavy movie, revisiting the movie after all these years, and what projects he’s planning to direct in the future.

I know that Lightning Bug is a personal story for you and based on some of your past experiences. Can you tell me a bit about your time growing up in Alabama and how the story eventually evolved into Lightning Bug?

Robert Hall: I moved there when I was nine and I felt like a fish out of water.

Effects guru Robert Hall’s semi-autobiographical film about a small town teen (Reaper's Bret Harrison) who has aspirations to become a special effects artist. An opportunity to manage the town’s local haunted house is thwarted by his alcoholic stepfather and the staunchly religious views of the surrounding population. The solid supporting cast includes That 70’s Show’s Laura Prepon, Hellraiser’s Ashely Lawrence and Kevin Gage. Written and directed by Hall, it’s an affectionate coming-of-age drama that works in spite of an uneven narrative that falls apart in the final half hour. Hopefully this new extended cut will remedy the scripting problems of the original release.

Robert Hall’s Lightning Bug is now available on Blu-ray, and I had a chance to talk with Hellraiser‘s Ashley Laurence earlier today about her role in the movie. I just recently had a chance to watch the Blu-ray version of Lightning Bug and really enjoyed your performance in it. How did you first meet up with Robert Hall and why was Lightning Bug a movie you wanted to be involved in?

Ashley Laurence: I met Robert working on a horror film in Ireland, and we bonded creatively over some of the aspects in that film. We became friends and he told me he was writing a story that was semi-autobiographical. I was supportive of him and he wanted me to be a part of it.
