Poppa’s House just got started, but the Wayans family already has big plans for the show’s future. New Girl and In Living Color reunions are coming up a February episode of Poppa’s House Season 1, and Damon Wayans Jr. reveals to TV Insider that his uncle, Marlon Wayans, could appear on the sitcom. The star also says that it may just be a matter of time before Tisha Campbell and Jennifer Freeman — Damon Wayans Sr.‘s costars in the early 2000s sitcom My Wife and Kids — join as guest stars. In fact, Wayans Jr. says the two visited the Poppa’s House set just a week before the sitcom’s first episode debuted. Poppa’s House premiered on Monday (October 21) on CBS. It stars Wayans Sr. as Poppa, a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced man who has his point of view challenged as he finds himself still parenting his adult son,...

Damon Wayans returns to the sitcom world, and it feels…familiar. Like putting on a comfy, slightly worn-in sweater. Poppa’s House has that classic Wayans DNA, but with a few generational tweaks. It’s time for a classic Coach and Winston mess around. Poppa’s House is staging a New Girl reunion for Damon Wayans Jr. and Lamorne Morris in an episode set to air in February 2025. The episode will also feature an In Living Color reunion for Damon Wayans and Tommy Davidson. Following the Poppa’s House series premiere on Monday, October 21, Wayans opened up to TV Insider about what to expect when Morris guest stars on the new sitcom. He says that while the new characters are different, Coach and Winston’s dynamic will naturally come out. As previously announced, Morris will play Todd in a February episode of Poppa’s House. Todd is a friend from Junior’s (Wayans Jr.) film school who tries to convince Junior to come back to filmmaking. As established in the series premiere, Junior is a brilliant dreamer who’s struggling to get his directing career off the ground.

Essence Atkins said the opportunity to star in CBS’ new sitcom “Poppa’s House” alongside Damon Wayans Sr. completed her nearly 30-year-long career working with the iconic Wayans family.
“It was Damon. I never worked with Senior before; I worked with [Damon Wayans] Junior on ‘Dance Flick.’ I had worked with basically with the entire [first] generation,” Atkins told TheWrap of her decision to sign on for the series. “Like, everybody but Damon, who is iconic and amazing and has done such incredible pioneering work in the realm of comedy, and so I just felt like he was my last frontier in this family. I was like, ‘I got to work with Damon.'”
Atkins stars in “Poppa’s House” as Dr. Ivy Reed, a driven and confident psychologist who joins veteran radio host Poppa (Wayans) as his new co-lead in an effort to boost his show’s dwindling ratings.

When Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. came together for CBS’ new sitcom Poppa’s House, you knew the comedy was in good hands. Playing father and son both onscreen and off, their chemistry is magnetic right from the start.
Poppa is a legendary radio host adjusting to changes at the station where he’s worked for decades. Now in his later years, the higher-ups pair him with a new co-host named Ivy in hopes she can breathe new life into the show. Yet Poppa’s not too keen on shaking up such a successful formula.
Next door resides Poppa’s son Junior, still chasing his dreams of filmmaking while also helping care for his own young family. Living in close proximity allows Poppa ample opportunity to offer guidance, whether Junior wants it or not.
But the comedy truly soars thanks to the talent and history of the entire Wayans clan involved.

CBS has just four timeslots allocated to comedy series. Only one is occupied by a brand new show, Poppa's House (Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is a new show but is populated by many familiar characters). It's become increasingly difficult for new shows to get noticed, and most are cancelled after one season. Will Poppa's House be one of the lucky ones? Will Poppa's House be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from the “Poppa’s House” series premiere.
There’s no getting around the fact that the Wayans family is one of the most hardworking in Hollywood. But what may be more surprising is the level of industry honesty that’s baked into Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.’s upcoming CBS sitcom, “Poppa’s House.”
It’s the pilot of “Poppa’s House” that includes a lesson that has become vital to the elder Wayans’ life. The first episode revolves around Damon (Wayans Jr.) quitting his stable but soul-crushing job to pursue his dream as a director. During the episode’s emotional crux, Poppa (Wayans) sits his son down and has a frank heart-to-heart, telling him that he has to take care of his family first. Then he can pursue his dreams. That was inspired by a life lesson Wayans learned the hard way.

We were wowed by their harmonies on the classic Cutting Crew track “(I Just) Died In Your Arms.” These three clearly make their livings by raising their voice in song. But we don’t think that they are one of the groups mentioned by the judges: B2K (Jenny), Earth, Wind & Fire (Rita) or 3/4 of 98 Degrees (Robin).
We’ve been reviewing the clues and that stand-out performance on September 25 as well as their encore appearances on October 2 and October 9 and have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Buffalo”?
We think that Buffalo is Boyz II Men. Don’t agree with our verdict? Well considering the following evidence from their first and second appearances:

Even if the first season had been its only season, “Saturday Night Live” still would have earned a place in TV history. The series’ original cast, know as “The Not Ready for Prime-Time Players,” launched the careers of John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman. In the almost 50 years since, “SNL” has jumpstarted the careers of many of the greatest comedians of each generation, including Bill Murray (who joined in Season 2), Dana Carvey, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Kristen Wiig, and Tina Fey – just to name a few – and led to films based on sketches from the series, such as “The Blues Brothers” (1980) and “Wayne’s World” (1992).

For decades, CBS was known as the “Tiffany Network.” Now, CBS president/chief marketing officer Mike Benson is ready to “break some Tiffany glass.”
The exec, who has been giving CBS a modern image overhaul since taking over in 2019, has now turned his attention to its comedy brand. Timed to the fall launch of the Eye network’s four comedies, Benson has introduced the campaign “You’re Laughing at CBS.”
“People will say that CBS is old and stodgy, but actually, if you look at our programming, it’s really not,” Benson said. “I think we’ve got a lot of work to do, from a brand perspective, to show that we can have a lot of fun. That we are willing to poke fun at ourselves as much as we want people to come in and laugh at the shows that we’ve got.”

For the second time this year, Hollywood gathered to honor TV’s biggest stars.
After the 2023 ceremony was delayed to January 2024 by last year’s Hollywood strikes, it’s only been eight months since TV’s biggest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre to announce the Emmy winners. Like months ago, “The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach once again won lead actor and supporting actor in a comedy, and co-star Colón-Zayas also won her first Emmy in the supporting actress race. “Hacks” star Jean Smart won lead actress in a comedy, and in the biggest surprise of the night, HBO’s “Hacks” won outstanding comedy over “The Bear,” which many believed to be the frontrunner.
“The Bear” broke its own record of 10 comedy wins for a single season, which it achieved last year, with its 11 trophies on Sunday, including directing for Christopher Storer. FX...

Is “Shōgun” adding more Emmy hardware to its historic haul? Will “The Bear” break its own record? Those are the big questions heading into the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. Est/5 p.m Pst on ABC.
Hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the main ceremony caps off a television year dominated by “Shōgun,” which already set a record for most Emmys by a drama series in a single year when it nearly swept the Creative Arts Emmys with 14. The FX drama, led by Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, will attempt to beef up its overall take when it competes with eight nominations in six top categories: drama series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, writing and directing. TheWrap’s awards guru Steve Pond boldly predicts “Shōgun” will go six for six on Sunday.

Broadcast TV lovers, we made! The summer hiatus ends this month as the networks turn the lights back on in the scripted department and our favorite shows return to us. We'll also be treated to their new offerings as well which includes a couple of shows centered on action taking place on open water, a doctor with face blindness and a penchant for using unorthodox methods to help his patients, a single mother with a genius Iq who figures out the missing piece in a case while working as a cleaner, and that's just a taste of what's coming!
Of course, unscripted staples are coming back, too. We have new seasons of Survivor and Dancing with the Stars to enjoy while marveling at CBS new action adventure competition series The Summit and falling in love with Joan Vassos' journey on The Golden Bachelorette. There's so much to watch and keep us entertained this fall.
