Promoting Global Health
Creating resilient health systems
Health is a prerequisite for a self-determined life. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports countries and institutions around the world in making health systems more resilient and in providing people with better health care. The ways it does so include by promoting training of health workers, by strengthening health services structures, by expanding health services for girls and women and by fostering effective treatment methods.
In 2022 alone, GIZ helped 120 million patients to benefit from improved health services. With GIZ's support, 300 million people have benefited from improved health insurance coverage.
The One Health Approach: Bringing together climate change, biodiversity and health
More than three-quarters of all emerging human infectious diseases originate in the animal world. Inadequate nature conservation and shrinking habitats are bringing humans and animals critically close to one other. GIZ works according to the One Health approach, pooling its long-standing experience in the fields of health, food security, climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation in order to prevent the risk of health crises through interdisciplinary cooperation.
