Bio
I have been working on my personal family history since about 1999. My mother and other relatives paved the way by starting their own collections and gathering of resources.
On my father's side, we have been here in the United States since 1637. Ancestors arrived here on the ship "Mary & John" and settled in Connecticut on the family farm that still stands today. For every major battle the US has fought in, there has been a relative that served in the US military. As land opened up through the pioneering & railroad efforts, our family slowly moved West. So, most of this side is either English, Scottish or Irish, but there is also a bit of German. I've been lucky enough to follow other's efforts in connecting this side back far enough to King Edward I, then following his lineage to William "The Conqueror" and up to Charlemagne and beyond.
On my mother's side, I am a second generation immigrant. Her family is mostly German, with a little Dutch & some Scandinavian . One part came to the US from Germany. The other part of her ancestry that we can find, started in German, detoured to the Odessa area when Catherine the Great and her grandson invited Germans into Russia, then many generations later, immigrated to the US.
I am also curious about my husband's side of the family; some are also German's from Russia. Other branches are from France, Belgium & Ireland. I'm looking forward to making connections for them.
