Popcorn's historical adventurous farce with expensive setting, which is ruined by childish humor and even more annoying over-stylized CGI action sequences that have no pace thanks to the overuse of the wannabe slow down scenes, in other words, they become a painful parody of themselves during the initial fencing in the rain. Unnecessarily overlong, full of empty scenes with empty dialogue. The jokes were cliched, but I was still quite entertained. The acting wasn't bad, but it didn't particularly impress me either – the sparks just didn't fly. Most of the time I was rather bored and waiting for something decent, and in the end there was a pretty good battle, but even so it didn't grab me by the heart. A bit too empty a film for me. ()
I got a completely different film than I expected. At the beginning it seems to be a predatory action ride and uncompromising carnage and it turns out to be very a entertaining, historical-adventure tale with beautiful visuals and setting (the high budget can be seen in every frame) and, most of all, an amazing cast, Ye-jin Son is delicious here. The fight with the shark and the whale hunt were great, the rest of the action was fine with some slow motion but no blood. So yeah, entertaining enough, but I would have preferred to see it in a rougher style...:) 75% ()
