Mały Książę

It's almost unbelievable how much I didn't believe in the movie and how it eventually engulfed me. And it is definitely due to the newly invented story that cleverly wraps up the notorious tale that I tried to read for my graduation and didn't enjoy at all. Even the animation, which can never be compared to anything from the Dreamworks workshop and other American production companies with an animated division, amused me with its quirkiness and suitable placement between the magical story and the stop-motion animation of the original Little Prince, which I also welcomed. Occasionally, a few dull moments appeared, but overall, everything was right. PS: soundtrack absolutely phenomenal, and I'll probably enjoy it solo sometime. Very strong 8/10. (20.11.2016)

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is there, and whoever says he is not, does not wish to find him. The Little Prince was waiting for me here all the time, just in a different form. The original can be read three times there and back in an afternoon, and each time it gives me something different, a different mood, a different direction in life, and a charge. The film takes all of this as its part, attributing more significant merits and thoughts to supporting characters we love so much, trying to unpack them into a more easily understandable and accessible experience for children. I cried, I laughed, but I was not amazed. That's why in the end, only four stars in the distant sky, with the understanding that something unexplained, no matter how brave and good-intentioned, is sometimes more than a lesson served on a silver platter. This version of The Little Prince is quite profound. It is not just another shallow animated narrative with a boring story where you know exactly what is going to happen. With this movie, you just have a hunch sometimes, and sometimes it can surprise you, and it does not really matter if you read the book or just learned about it in school. The Little Prince book was very charming, and this movie adaptation has a certain charm as well. Furthermore, it managed to move me, and therefore I can say that I loved the story, and even though it was quite sad in places, I actually felt like I lived through it. Furthermore, I think the movie’s producers portrayed the contrast between the colorful world of those who live and the grey and the drab world of those who just survive very well. If I add to that very good soundtrack, interesting characters, and a cool cuddly fox, I have a very good experience. On the other hand, I realize that the animation was not exactly top-notch, even though I must admit that I found the combination of the two types of animation used in this movie very well-executed and original. When I do my math, I am pleasantly surprised and my final impression is really indeed very good. 8.6/10.   (29.11.2015)

A beautifully animated film that I’d been eyeing for a while, and after watching it, I can honestly say it’s one of the most stunning animated tales I’ve seen in a long time. Of course, being based on The Little Prince, it's not surprising, but what I really appreciated was how the creators elevated the original story by adding a second narrative that perfectly complements the beloved classic. I was even leaning toward giving it a full five stars, but the second half lost some of the philosophical depth that makes The Little Prince so iconic, shifting into more typical animated fare. A famous fantasy tale immortalized through a modern socio-filmic lens that allows for a better portrayal of the main characters, a more accessible humorous narrative, and above all, an easier adaptation of Exupéry's timeless ideas for today's and tomorrow's youth. I really liked the varied stylization of the narrative, the flashback scenes focusing directly on passages from the book look exactly as I imagined them when I read them. My only quibble is the excessive runtime, where the film has not much to offer, especially in the middle part, and it unnecessarily delays the beginning of the original and hilarious climax.
