Engels "Madlax" is a peculiar series that will find its viewers, but at the same time, there will be those who will be deterred. The series undoubtedly has its qualities; however, it may just not resonate with you. It takes quite a while for the two main storylines to intertwine, and at times, the series can be quite static. Nevertheless, it still has something to offer. Especially visually, as each setting is specific and created very well, very believably. In terms of brutality, it certainly is not "Elfen Lied," but at the same time, it is more action-packed and mysterious. Additionally, one thing the Japanese excel at is their series' soundtracks. Engels A civil war against Parisian silence. An elegant assassin and an innocent student. Madlax relies on contrasts, action, and the characters' psyches, and at the end, I am left pondering the extent of the inexplicable disappointment. Why? Primarily because it fails to maintain the mysterious atmosphere that accompanies the excellent episodic characters to the very end. Before the fateful encounters and truths start to unfold more or less in one place, the series works naturally, and I am interested in all the characters without exception, with the musical accompaniment reaching perfection. But in the last quarter, it seems like the script loses sanity and overdoes melodramatic outcries, dialogue, and pauses far beyond the bearable limit, not to mention that the highly anticipated climax is initially even a heavy defeat. Ultimately, the swaying fourth star is mainly held in place by the well-constructed previous part of the series and a direct comparison with the slightly weaker Noir. ()
