I evaluate the First Republic very positively, but of course, like a significant part of the local users, I have some reservations about it. First the positives. Capturing the period atmosphere, costumes, set design, everything is top-notch. The acting performances of Koleník, Holub, Vlasák, Vyorálek, Nová, and Kříž are excellent. The script - the detective line is very well done, the supernatural line is solid. Unfortunately, I accidentally spoiled the detective line myself because I knew the murderer's mistake in advance. Nevertheless, it was interesting to watch the investigation and especially to ponder about the motive and circumstances of the murder. Now the negatives. The romantic subplot is like taken from a soap opera, a telenovela, or the latest trash. I don't know if things could have turned out this way between the characters under the First Republic. Annoying characters that annoyed me a lot - Studenková, Dvořák, Medvecká. Some action sequences. However, the overall impression is overwhelmingly positive and I am looking forward to the second series. In the current production of Czech television, the First Republic is still beautifully above average. ()
I have seen all episodes of the first season and I must express my opinion. I liked the series and the plot was average, but it was all like being on the wrong wavelength. The quality of individual episodes was very inconsistent and the more the series progressed toward the end, the more it lost in overall quality. In the last two episodes, there was as much happening as in the previous five episodes combined. I didn't like that, and the resolution of the plot and the twist were clear from the middle of the series (anyone who put two and two together must have figured it out immediately). I really liked the chosen era, costumes, and setting. The acting performances were also good - except for the child actors. Additionally, it annoyed me a lot that the whole series was wrapped in a "paranormal cloak." I really liked Veronika Arichteva's performance, as she entertained me throughout and seemed to be the best casting choice. If there is a continuation, I will most likely skip it. ()
