Conor is a square. He doesn’t swear, thinks holding hands with his gorgeous wife Kristina is a wild night, and goes to bed well before 9pm. When his slimy boss, Mr. Buechler and Kristina call him out on his squareness, Conor is deeply offended. Determined to prove them wrong, he’s lured by a 1-900 ad promising the party of a lifetime with a creature named Frankie Freako. Calling the hotline opens a world of chaos, and Frankie, joined by two other “Freako” friends, trash his house. Who are these little monsters, why have they decided to torment him endlessly? Conor must get rid of them before his wife returns from a weekend trip, plus appease the creepy Buechler. (Shout! Factory)

In diesen Bereichen fällt Frankie Freako definitiv hinein. Leider. [Sitges 2024] ()
Frankie Freako completely drops the ball on what should have been its standout feature: the puppets. Don’t go in expecting Jim Henson-level magic here. Frankie himself is stiff and unremarkable, and his sidekicks are even more forgettable. Boink, with his repetitive and mind-numbing catchphrase "shabadoo," is probably the worst offender. The fact that the funniest character is Mr. Buechler (played by Adam Brooks) with his ongoing gag about shredding company documents—who then disappears after the first third of the film—says it all. It’s a harmless bit of nonsense, but unfortunately, not a very funny one. I expected more from this team. ()
