The story of magician's assistant Myra Shumway who sets off on a series of bizarre, liberating adventures during the early 1950s. After her controlling fiance shoots and kills her mentor, Myra flees to the Mexican border concealing the roll of film on which she captured the murder. There she is caught up in a quack English doctor's quest for a mysterious Mayan elixir, while she is simultaneously pursued by a handsome, down-at-the-heel American reporter. A unfocused film with very bad performances from the giants Russell Crowe and Jim Broadbent, along with a senseless story, and as a whole, an infuriating waste of time that I never want even to come across again. It's unbelievable how everything can go so wrong in this Rough Magic. ()
