John Thomas

John Thomas served as director of photography on the box office hit "Sex and the City," based on the award-winning HBO series, on which he also worked for five seasons.  His other feature film credits include "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy," directed by Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory and set for release this year; "Spinning Into Butter," starring and produced by Sarah Jessica Parker; "Hi-Life"; "The Last Days of Disco"; "Dead Man on Campus"; "Still Breathing"; "The Night We Never Met"; and "Barcelona," for which he won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography.

Several of Thomas' films have screened at the Sundance Film Festival, including "Metropolitan," which earned the Grand Jury Prize nomination in 1990, as well as an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature; "Freeway," starring Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize; "Palookaville," which won the Kodak International Prize for Best First Feature at the Venice Film Festival the same year; and "Kicked in the Head," starring James Woods, which also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

On the small screen, Thomas received an Emmy Award nomination for Best Cinematography for the HBO special "Norma Jean & Marilyn," starring Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino.  His other television credits include the series "Gossip Girl," "Six Degrees," "Conviction," "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," "Law & Order" and "The Job," as well as several telefilms, including "The Pennsylvania Miners' Story," "The Ranch" and "The Hunley," which starred Donald Sutherland.
