Plots(1)

The future is bright for Tyler (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), who seems to have everything he needs: a wealthy family to support him, a spot on the high-school wrestling team, and a girlfriend (Alexa Demie) he's head over heels in love with. Committed to greatness and under intense scrutiny from his father (Sterling K. Brown), Tyler spends his mornings and nights training. But when pushed to the limit, cracks in the perfect façade of Tyler's existence start to show, and the stage is set for a true American tragedy. (Toronto International Film Festival)

English Impressive. These small independent low-budget raw American dream stories are filmed in such quality and thank God for every such contribution. This one has some similarities to American Honey, only that it’s shorter, faster and less sprawling, so it's more focused on the interaction of the main characters and their ensuing transformation. It is rare to see such a brilliant and perfectly coherent consistency of a strong "cinematic" story and at the same time a very interesting look at the real issues of contemporary American teenagers (social networks, easy access to drugs). It’s not getting five stars only because the first half is a class better than the “farewell” second half. Still, it's a powerful, sensual experience, artfully supported by an electrifying soundtrack and Trent Reznor's typical nervous tones. ()
