Egyptian scriptwriter and director. Born in Mecca in 1977, he grew up in Ismailia. He studied economics at Suez Canal University. He worked for a major international bank but quit his job and moved to New York, where he studied screenplay writing at the New York Film Academy. He has written several screenplays, including for the blockbuster Egyptian franchise "El Gezira". He debuted as a director in 2010 with "Cairo 678". His second feature "Clash" was selected as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes festival in 2016.
