I guess I have a soft spot for American retro shows. If my top ten list weren’t already full, I’d definitely add The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel alongside The Americans and Mad Men. I really enjoyed the balance between humor and drama, and even though this show is probably a favorite among feminists, I appreciated that it tackled the topic in a way that didn’t feel heavy-handed or preachy—it was genuinely entertaining. I don’t mind when women poke fun at men, as long as it’s actually funny and not just thinly veiled bitterness. Here, the humor was sharp and smart, and if there was any underlying bitterness, the creators hid it well, because I didn’t feel it at all. Five stars, no question. / Lesson learned: Ambition, beauty, and humor are a killer combination.
