Introduction
Global food safety and security will continue to be a global concern for the next 50 years and beyond. Plant diseases have had a significant impact on food safety and security throughout the entire food chain, from primary production to consumption. While conventional chemical pesticides have been traditionally used for plant protection, their frequent application has led to issues such as resistance in plant disease, environmental contamination, and risks to human health. Therefore, it may be necessary to reconsider the current reliance on conventional chemical pesticides for controlling plant diseases. In recent years, heterocyclic compounds have emerged as promising alternatives due to their excellent selectivity, high activity levels, low dosage requirements, and minimal toxicity. Over 50 heterocyclic pesticides have already been developed or even introduced into the market. As a result of these advancements, heterocyclic chemistry is expected to maintain its crucial position in the pesticide market in the coming decades.
