Summer research graduate programme

This programme is aimed at highly promising PhD students who have completed their coursework and are in the dissertation stage of their studies in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics or another related field.

About the programme

Research graduates will have the opportunity to visit the ECB’s Directorate General Research for three months during the summer, carry out research and learn about the day-to-day work of the Directorate General.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Tasks

In particular, the participants in this programme are expected to contribute to the work of the Directorate General as follows:

  • carry out research on a topic of relevance for the ECB (as outlined in the research proposal submitted when applying for the programme), under the supervision of a senior economist in the Directorate General;
  • present the results of this research in a seminar at the end of the visit;
  • interact with economists in the Directorate General and from across the ECB;
  • become familiar with the working environment in the Directorate General and, more generally, with the ECB and its policy challenges.

Next recruiting round

The vacancy notice for the forthcoming Summer research graduate programme will be published in Q4 (November), with the closing date of the campaign around mid-January of the following year. Please monitor the ECB’s careers webpage for updates.
