The Dakota Association of South Africa and this website are dedicated to the Douglas C-47 and DC-3 aircraft that have carried South African registrations, both civil and SAAF, South African Air Force. And yes the "TP Dak" is also included.
I was most fortunate to work with DC-3s at Skyclass Aviation at Rand Airport, Germiston, just south of Johannesburg from February 2007 until the end of March 2009. Skyclass operated the Douglas DC-3, ZS-BXF, in passenger configuration owned by the South African Airways Museum Society. They also owned DC-3, ZS-LVR in passenger configuration and DC-3, ZS-CAI a freighter that operated five days a week from July 2007 to early 2009, on a cargo run from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Gaborone in Botswana on behalf of Air Botswana.
As a matter of interest Skyclass also operated three Douglas DC-4s, all in 50-seat business class configuration. They are registered ZS-AUA, ZS-AUB and ZS-BMH.
The idea of the Dakota Association of South Africa and this website is to provide a comprehensive resource of data and photographs tracing the histories of Douglas C-47s and DC-3s that have plied their trade in South Africa and Africa.
Comments, advice and contributions will be most welcome.
