Liverpool are the only club to have won all five Champions League matches this season.

Meanwhile, head coach Arne Slot is the first manager to win each of his first five games in charge of an English club in this competition.

  2. 'You have got to say that you fancy Liverpool really strongly' to beat Citypublished at 23:03 27 November

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton says "a full strength Liverpool are better than Manchester City at the moment" and tips them to beat the reigning champions on Sunday.

"I just worry about the injury to Ibrahima Konate," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live. "If he is fit for the weekend you have got to say that you fancy Liverpool really strongly.

"City absolutely capitulated on Tuesday [against Feyenoord] and they just look normal, like any other team. The wheels are off and it is so unusual for us to see that.

"A full strength Liverpool are better than City at the moment, but can we keep ruling them out? They are going to come good eventually, aren't they?

"What Liverpool have that City and Arsenal don't is a greater strength in depth in their squad. You look at the goalkeeping position, Caoimhin Kelleher has always been outstanding and he's got a brilliant temperament. In many respects it was not a great surprise to see him save a penalty. Kylian Mbappe is normally lethal but had his boots on the wrong feet in this game.

"You look at the right-back position and Conor Bradley looked to have done his hamstring tonight, but they have Trent Alexander-Arnold to come back in for City at the weekend."

  3. Slot on 'pleasing' Real Madrid winpublished at 22:40 27 November

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to TNT Sports: "You know how special it is to play against a team that has won the Champions League so many times. They were a pain for Liverpool for many years too. It is a big week and it is pleasing to see.

"I didn't have a schedule in terms of amount of points I wanted. You want to implement the playing style as soon as possible. It is great to see not only the starters, but the players coming on are doing as we expect. If before the season I had counted points for this point in the season I wouldn't have done as much as we have now.

"Every time Real Madrid threatened is was from us. I think we can play with more intensity and be better with the ball."

  4. Kelleher or Alisson 'is a good headache to have'published at 22:31 27 November

Former Premier League defender Gary Cahill says Liverpool are playing with confidence in the Champions League and gave their fans a night to remember against Real Madrid.

" I thoroughly enjoyed their performance," said Cahill on BBC Radio 5 Live. "Liverpool were so energetic, which is to be expected at Anfield but I am sure the fans loved it.

"What impresses me is the tempo they played at and the confidence they are playing with."

On whether goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will keep his place when Alisson is back, Cahill added: "The old saying goes, 'when you have a chance you have to take it' and Kelleher has certainly done that.

"Liverpool have a world class keeper in Alisson, who will probably come back in, but it is a good headache for the manager to have."

  5. 'Confidence is high in the whole squad'published at 22:23 27 November

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher speaking to TNT Sports about his penalty save from Kylian Mbappe: "I was confident and thankfully I went the right way again.

"It is a big result. It is a massive result for us. We wanted to come out tonight and put on a performance and well done to the lads for doing that."

Looking ahead to Sunday's game against Manchester City: "I think confidence is high in the whole squad. We know City have had a tough few results, but what a team. We expect a really tough test but this is good confidence for the team and we will go again."

  6. Bradley and Konate 'are both concerns'published at 22:10 27 November

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "A brilliant night at Anfield and a thoroughly deserved victory for Liverpool. They are absolutely relentless.

"But Conor Bradley came off with a hamstring injury and Ibrahima Konate, who has been a rock this season, hobbled off. They are both concerns with Manchester City coming up.

"Everyone talked about this being an enormous week with Madrid being in town before City at the weekend and it now feels like they are cruising in the Premier League and Champions League.

"I don't think anyone saw Mohamed Salah missing a penalty, but they still managed to get over the line."

  9. 'December could hardly be more difficult - Dyche has to find a way'published at 16:58 27 November

While the draw with Brentford earned Everton a point, it was another missed opportunity at a time when goals and wins are in desperately short supply.

The resolute and almost watertight defending has to be applauded, especially after a start to the season that saw them conceding goals at an alarming rate.

However, there has been a real shortage of creativity and conviction about much of their play around the opposition penalty area. It has become a real problem in recent weeks; one that needs solving in double-quick time.

The lack of goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin is an obvious cause of concern, but given his aerial prowess, the supply line for him needs to improve markedly.

Sean Dyche has tried various potential solutions to try to bring more firepower to the team, but so far without success.

Against Brentford, there was no shortage of endeavour - Dyche makes that a minimum requirement - but with the team needing a spark against a low block, it was surprising Jack Harrison was not given an opportunity. The on-loan Leeds winger has not set the world alight this season, but his introduction as a second-half substitute game against Crystal Palace at Goodison, proved game-changing. Maybe even a 15-minute cameo could have altered the course of the game.

That win against Palace is Everton’s only Premier League victory at Goodison so far this season.

Six points from six home matches so far is worrying, especially as home games have been the platform for survival in the past few seasons.

The schedule of fixtures also gets much harder - December could hardly be more difficult. As he has done before, Dyche will have to try to forge a way of winning matches again from this group of players.

Manchester United at Old Trafford may not be the daunting test that it once was, but it is a first home league game for new United manager Ruben Amorim. Everton will need to raise their game in attack to give the best opportunity of a positive result.
