Promotion of wellness management for Aeon 's health managementemployees

1. Health management objectives and policies

AEON Health Management Declaration

AEON aims to manage its business with respect for people, and its basic human resources philosophy is to "listen to employees' aspirations, understand their hearts, and utilize their abilities." Its AEON person at work, at home, and in the community.

In fiscal 2016, AEON made the "AEON Healthy Management Declaration," and the entire group is working to ensure employee occupational safety and health and to manage employee health.

AEON supports the health of its employees and their families.
Together with our employees, we aim to achieve health and happiness in the local community.

Executive Vice President
Personnel and Living Area Promotion Officer and Risk Management Officer
AEON Health Promotion Manager Hiroyuki Watanabe

Purpose of health management

AEON has positioned the evolution of health and wellness to meet the needs of the new era as an important strategy in its medium-term management plan. As extending healthy lifespan is a social issue and customers are becoming more health-conscious than ever before, the company is working to resolve social issues through the evolution of health and wellness, which provides comprehensive products and services.

In addition, in order to realize the health and happiness of our employees and customers and contribute to local communities, Aeon believes that human resources are our greatest management resource, and we strive to ensure that our diverse human resources are healthy, demonstrate their abilities, and play an active role.

Aeon's health management aims to realize an ideal situation in which each employee is healthy in mind and body, wants to continue working for a long time, and is full of motivation to work. It also aims for healthy employees to live happy lives in their communities and contribute to the realization of the health and happiness of our AEON.

Therefore, the ultimate goals of health management are "improvement of labor productivity," "retention of human resources, reduction of unwanted turnover," and "improvement of employee satisfaction and work engagement," and we are working on the following indicators as the final goal indicators of health management. I'm here.

Priority issues for health management

To achieve health management, AEON is promoting various initiatives by determining priority issues from the perspectives of both employee health and the organization based on the results of health checkups and employee surveys.

employee health

Based on analysis of employee health checkup data and the age structure of group employees, we believe that preventing the onset and severity of lifestyle-related diseases and improving health literacy are important issues.

  • Reduction in the number of people with abnormalities (especially blood pressure and blood sugar)
  • Improving lifestyle habits (especially smoking rate)

organizational health

Based on employee surveys and an analysis of the current situation of employees on leave, we believe that improving the work environment and strengthening preventive measures are important issues in terms of mental health measures.

  • Improving the workplace environment (mental health measures)
  • Improvement and prevention of overwork
  • Strengthening primary to tertiary prevention through training

Health management strategy map

We have created a health management strategy map that organizes the management issues we want to solve through health management, the final target indicators, employee health and organizational issues, and the connections between specific initiatives.

2. Health management promotion system

Promotion system

To promote health management, we have established AEON Health Promotion Office, with the Executive Vice President in charge of Human Resources and Living Area Promotion and Risk Management at AEON Co., Ltd. as the promotion manager. AEON Health Promotion Office is led by the Human Resources Planning Department AEON Co., Ltd., and works with the heads of the health insurance association, AEON Good Life Club (mutual aid society), and labor union to consider and implement measures to maintain and improve employee health from a management strategy perspective.

In addition, each group company has a health promotion manager and a person in charge, and each company is working to promote proactive health management.

Health issues are also raised at the Group Labor-Management Council, where top management and the labor union discuss internal issues, to review the status and effects of health management initiatives and exchange opinions.

<Health and Productivity Management Promotion System>

Promoting group-wide initiatives

Since fiscal 2017, we have been holding regular AEON Health Management Promotion Conferences with major group companies, and since fiscal 2019, we have been holding regular AEON Health Management General Conferences for health promotion managers and staff from all group companies, with industrial health staff and labor unions from each company also participating.

The Promotion Council formulates and verifies group policies, while the General Meeting works to unify AEON Group in promoting health management by horizontally deploying health promotion and management measures. It also works to enhance the PDCA cycle by holding lectures and training sessions by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, leading companies, and various experts, as well as holding learning sessions among group companies.

The promotion of health and productivity management within AEON Group has been progressing steadily, with 37 companies in the large corporation category (including three in the White 500) and 20 in the small and medium-sized corporation category being certified as outstanding health and productivity management companies for 2024.

3. Specific initiatives

Group initiative policy

The AEON Group has established a group-wide policy to promote employee health and improve the working environment.

Main initiatives

■Efforts to improve health management and checkup rates

[Background of the initiative]

As our group's employees are aging and have a high rate of hypertension and diabetes, we believe it is important to take measures to prevent the onset and severity of the disease through medical checkups.

[Contents of the initiative]

We stratify risks based on health examination results and implement individual approaches.

(High risk person)

  • Recommendation of consultation at a medical institution
  • Health guidance by industrial health workers
  • Providing a program to prevent diabetes from worsening

(medium risk person)

  • Implementation of specific health guidance (recommendation of medical examination through the workplace, certification of working hours, provision of location)

■Initiatives to counter passive smoking and support for smoking cessation

[Background of the initiative]

We believe that improving the smoking rate is an important issue as the rate of smoking among group employees is high, and as the population ages, the incidence of lifestyle-related diseases and cancer is expected to increase.
Additionally, due to the nature of our industry, many employees come into direct contact with customers, so one of our major goals is to prevent customers from getting exposed to third-hand smoke.

[Contents of the initiative]
  • We have been working to promote smoking cessation since 2015, and have implemented a complete smoking ban on the premises of our head office since 2019.
  • Starting in 2021, employees at 115 domestic Group companies will be prohibited from smoking during working hours and on the premises, in order to further improve health awareness and improve the environment to help people quit smoking.
  • To raise awareness and support for quitting smoking, we offer three quit smoking programs for free to employees (online quitting with a doctor, personal quitting with a public health nurse, and easy non-smoking quitting by distributing tools).
  • Discuss and implement measures based on the opinions of the health and safety committee, etc. Health managers, health promotion officers and other personnel, and managers will work together to encourage smokers to attend "quit smoking seminars," grasp their intention to quit smoking through questionnaires after the seminars, and recommend various programs.

■Efforts to improve lifestyle habits and improve health literacy

[Background of the initiative]

In order to improve the health of our employees, we believe that it is important not only to approach high-risk individuals individually, but also to promote initiatives to prevent physical and mental disorders and the onset of diseases while they are still healthy.

[Contents of the initiative]

We are implementing initiatives to maintain and improve lifestyle habits, improve health literacy, and support employee self-care.

Effects of health management

■Reduction of smoking rate

AEON has declared a complete smoking ban on its head office premises since 2019, and a smoking ban during working hours throughout the group from 2021. Along with revising its work rules, the company has also made known the rule that smokers must finish smoking 45 minutes before starting work.

At the same time, we also provide support such as online smoking cessation programs to help you quit smoking.

As a result, smoking rates continue to improve.

■Providing health guidance and improving health conditions

In cooperation with the health insurance association, we have focused our efforts on implementing specific health guidance for people over the age of 40 with metabolic syndrome and those at risk of developing metabolic syndrome, and the implementation rate has significantly improved.

It has been confirmed that those who have undergone specific health guidance are more effective in reducing their BMI than those who have not.

As a result, the number of people eligible for specific health guidance has decreased as the implementation rate of specific health guidance has improved, suggesting that this is leading to a reduction in metabolic syndrome among employees and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases.

5. Social initiatives

Supply chain initiatives

At AEON, we are taking steps to consider the health of not only our own group employees, but also the employees of our suppliers, who are important partners in our business.

  • Conducted joint research with the Japan Physical Therapy Association to maintain employees' physical abilities and prevent workplace injuries, and published the results in various media so that those in the supply chain could make use of them.
Example: Safety Staff No. 2453, Labor Newspaper, July 1, 2024, etc.

(Reach out to suppliers)
AEON has established the AEON Supplier Code of Conduct (AEON Supplier Code of Conduct) and asks suppliers to comply with the Supplier Code of Conduct () regarding the production of products while ensuring a safe and healthy work environment in which the human rights of employees are protected and the products are appropriately considered.

Social initiatives (together with local residents)
