Mindat.org is a scientifc database based on the contributions of its members. As these contributions become part of the permanent record of the mindat.org database, and because everything must be attributable to those who entered it, it is very important that you understand what information we capture, what information you voluntarily give us, and how that information is used and your rights in removing such information in the future.
Use of Cookies
Mindat.org uses cookies to store personal preferences relating to the use of the website. We do not use cookies in any way to track your activities outside of this website. When you register you provide us with your full, real name and your email address. Any contributions you make to our database will be assoicated with your name. This cannot be removed even if you wish to unregister from the website as it has become part of the historical record of our database and cannot be deleted except in very special circumstances if the management board of mindat.org agree to do so.
Personal details you give us will not be given out to anyone else except with your explicit permission.
If you register on the site your full name is visible but your email address is hidden from other users, except those with editorial-level or management level access to site history who will see your email address in the logs of any data you have added or edited on the site.
Information recorded automatically
We use several methods to record information about you and your visit automatically in order to better understand how our site is being used and to tailor the experience for you.
For security reasons we may record IP addresses that are used to log into your account to prevent unauthorized access. This information is kept securely and not shared with any other party.
All activity on the site is logged including IP address of access, these logs are usually kept for no longer than 24hrs then any user-identifiable information is stripped out and the logs bulk processed to give details of (for example) how many visitors per day came from a particular country.
When logged in activity made by your account including mindat.org pages you have visited, messages you have read and/or replied to, and any information you have submitted are logged in order to both moderate the information that has been entered and to better understand how our services are being used. This information is not available to anyone except management of mindat.org.
