Fencing

In the ranking round, each competitor fences all the others with a single touch settling the bout and both athletes considered losers if nobody wins inside one minute.

In the bonus round, the last-placed athlete from the ranking round competes with the next-placed athlete. The winner duels with the next-placed athlete and the victor of each duel continues to advance, scoring a bonus point for each win.

Swimming

Competitors race in heats over 200m in freestyle, earning points according to their times.

Horse riding

Horses are allocated according to lots drawn by the competitors 20 minutes before the start. They compete in a show jumping competition, trying to clear 12 obstacles(ten of them single bars, one double and one triple) over a 350-400m course in a fixed time, with points deducted for penalties.

Running and shooting

The competitor with the most points after the first three events starts first, with the rest starting behind the leader at intervals of time depending on their points tallies. The 3200m race (four laps of 800m) is punctuated by four shooting stops, from where the competitor shoots with a laser pistol at a target 10m away. The athlete can resume running after hitting the target five times or when 50 seconds have expired. The first athlete to cross the finish line wins gold.
