Individuals with impairments or reduced mobility, such as obese people, senior citizens, pregnant and breastfeeding women are entitled to preferential service when accessing venues and on services offered to Games spectators. Exclusive services intended for this audience are also available at all venues.

Accessible toilets are available at all venues. Extra accessible toilets – with stretcher and hoist to assist the transfer – and toilets for people with reduced mobility are available at some venues.

CONDUCTION OF PEOPLE WITH AN IMPAIRMENT OR WITH REDUCED MOBILITY

Available at all venues, the service includes the conduction in a wheelchair of people with an impairment or reduced mobility to their seats.

LENDING OF WHEELCHAIRS

Public information desks at Barra and Deodoro Olympic Parks provide a wheelchair lending service.

STORAGE OF BABY STROLLERS AND WHEELCHAIRS

Baby strollers are not allowed in the seating area. Public information desks have room for free storage that can also store wheelchairs, power chairs, carrycots and others.

CHARGING STATION FOR POWER CHAIRS

Rio 2016 provides charging stations for power chairs. Spectators can recharge using their personal accessories, such as cables and adapters.

GOLF CARTS

Some venues provide golf carts for people with an impairment or reduced mobility. Vehicles go through a single route with boarding and alighting points.

DOG RELIEF AREA

Guide dogs are allowed in all venues. Volunteers can indicate the areas reserved for this purpose.

DESCRIPTIVE SPORTS COMMENTARY

At sports venues where silence is required and visually impaired athletes are present, the Sport Radio service works like a radio station, on which commentators trained in audio description narrate live competitions, broadcasting real-time questions and messages. Check it out:

CEREMONIES AUDIO DESCRIPTION

Audio descriptions will be available at the Rio 2016 ceremonies so that people with a visual impairment may fully enjoy the event. This service may also be used by any spectator who would like to know about the ceremony in detail. Bring your device with FM frequency to enjoy the celebration even more!

The official Rio 2016 website was developed with resources aimed at making it easier to access for those with disabilities or reduced mobility. Web accessibility means adapting the digital environment so that everyone is able to effectively visualise, navigate and interact with the content. The term is also used by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which standardises the creation and interpretation of online content and facilitates access to websites, regardless of a person’s ability. 

ACCESSIBILITY RESOURCES

Modal boxes (images or texts that overlaid on top of site content) and Flash are not used, because their characteristics make it impossible for those with visual disabilities to access.

Navigation is possible through the keyboard, using shortcut key combinations, meaning users do not have to use the onscreen navigation buttons and can focus solely on the information.

The invisible menu is the first navigation tool for those with disabilities, allowing them to browse through pages more objectively and directing them to the top, menu and bottom areas. Every image is accompanied by a description, ensuring that what is being pictured can be understood.

Users are also able to increase or decrease font size on their actual browser:
