Olympic Legacy

The Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games go well beyond sports. The event will leave a legacy, not just for Rio de Janeiro, but all of Brazil, covering a variety of areas, including education, culture and sustainability.

EDUCATION

Transforma, the education program of the Rio 2016 Committee, has already benefitted 28,000 students from Rio de Janeiro’s municipal education network. The initiative, which takes Olympic and Paralympic values to schools, can be adopted by institutions anywhere in the country. Teachers can find tips on activities at the programme’s website, as well as support material for download. EDUCATION PORTAL

TRANSPARENCY

Image 1

To stage memorable Games, we need to be in sync with all our collaborators, suppliers and sponsors. One of the missions adopted by Rio 2016 is the routine of regular dialogue with society, discussing the main subjects of accessibility, child and youth protection, transparency, diversity and inclusion. TRANSPARENCY AREA

SUPPLIES

By the Rio 2016 Games, over 30 million items will be acquired by the Organising Committee. Companies of all sizes are able to access the purchase schedule found at the Supplies Portal, thus being able to organise themselves to meet these demands. In addition, they will be preparing themselves to make the most of what is expected to be significant post-Games demand. SUPPLIES PORTAL

CULTURE

Culture is a country’s first calling card. For this reason, the Rio 2016 Committee Culture’s Programme, Celebra, promotes artistic interventions that represent the diversity of Brazilian culture. It comprises an unprecedented series of events in the streets, parks, squares and beaches of the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ host city. The project involves music, art, literature and dance aimed at awakening the sporting spirit.

Sustainability is present throughout the organisation of the Rio 2016 Games. Our objective is to deliver the Games in a transparent way that is environmentally and socially responsible. The Rio 2016 Committee has established a standard of commitment to ensure that sustainability becomes part of the very DNA of the organisation of the Games, becoming evident in the gains for the local economy, diversity of collaborators, protection of local flora and fauna and a focus on minimising CO2 emissions. SUSTAINABILITY PORTAL

PRE-GAMES TRAINING

Image 6

Did you know that foreign delegations pass through a period called “acclimatisation” before the competitions begin? Those who believe the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games will only benefit Rio de Janeiro are very much mistaken. There will be 160 training locations in 18 states across Brazil. This sporting legacy will remain for the entire country. PRE-GAMES TRAINING LOCATIONS
