She read English Language and Literature at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford but the call of performing proved too strong and Josie ran experimental comedy clubs during her studies. Full Biography

Josie Long spent her early life in Orpington, South East London and began performing stand-up comedy at the ridiculously young age of 14.

At 17 she won the BBC New Comedy Awards, but when she was accepted to Oxford University she put her stand up career on hold.

She read English Language and Literature at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford but the call of performing proved too strong and Josie ran experimental comedy clubs during her studies.

After graduating, she returned to live stand up with full force, supporting Stewart Lee on his Spring 2005 tour, and round that time tour she contributed sketches and one-liners to BBC Radio One's comedy show, The Milk Run.

That same year Josie began publishing a free fanzine, Drawing Moustaches In Magazines Monthly Magazine, which has featured contributions from Robin Ince, Kevin Eldon, Stewart Lee, Danielle Ward and Isy Suttie.

In 2006 Josie's career shifted up a gear when she won the If.comeddies Best Newcomer award at the Fringe, before launching her own monthly comedy clubs, The Sunday Night Adventure Club, at the ABC Café in Crystal Palace and The OK Club at the Boogaloo pub in Highgate, North London.

Josie has also done some lovely stuff for us when we were Paramount Comedy, making regular appearances in Robin Ince's podcast Show & Tell and second series Robin Ince's Utter Shambles which you can download for FREE right here.

While you're at it, why not join her and Robin's Facebook group too?!

On TV Josie has written for the Channel Four drama series Skins as well as appearing in an online webisode and episodes five and ten of the second series of the show, in which she plays a college careers advisor.

She appeared again in episode 5 of the third series, reprising that role, this time, however, in another career. She has also guested on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, while on radio she appeared on Just a Minute and her radio series Josie Long: All of the Planet's... was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in early 2009.

In her 2007/2008 tour Trying is Good (available to buy on DVD) her act often involved drawing a sea scene on her arms and stomach.

Long has a love of applique and the V&A; museum, and live Boggle contests sometimes form a part of her act.

What sets Josie apart from many acts is her infectious enthusiasm for the seemingly insignificant and trivial things in life, but she always infuses this rather whimsical style with fiercely intelligent observations and cutting put downs - never let it be said that Josie doesn't have an edge!

Josie's 2010 show Be Honourable earnt her an Edinbugh Comedy Award nomination alongside Russell Kane (who won), Greg Davies, Bo Burnham and Sarah Millican. It was the first time two female comedians had been nominated for the award.
