It is very important that the Governments of Malawi and Tanzania should undestand and tell their citizens that the Lake Nyasa/Malawi border dispute arises from the the ixistence of two international treaties (one which says borders should pass through the middle of water bodies whose coastlines are shared by communities from both neighbouring countries and the other colonial one which says all the northern portion of lake Nyasa/Malawi belongs to malawi)which are conflicting. One of the two international treaties favours Malawi while the other favours both Malawi and Tanzania, resulting to the conflicting effect responsible for the dissagreement between Malawi and Tanzania on the borders of the Lake. Tanzania and Malawi are not responsible for border dispute as they are not responsible for the conflicting international treaties. The adverse effect of the two conflicting treaties on the bordders of the lake should be resolved at international level, good if it is resolved through the OAU or the UN and Malawi and Tanzania should agree to abide. Communities in Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique shared the lake peacefully for decades before the arrival of colonialism and colonial treaties shouldn't be allowed to alter the God given rights of communities on the lake.
