Nigeria: Immigration Nabs Student for Alleged Armed Robbery in Cross River

Calabar — Cross River State Command of Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested a final year student of College of Education, Akamkpa, for alleged armed robbery and no fewer than 10 illegal immigrants in Calabar.

State Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Ogwiji, said the Monitoring and Surveillance team he set up carried out a raid in the state capital and arrested the illegal immigrants, who were mainly from Republic of Mali and other neighbouring countries.

Ogwiji said about four persons suspected to be armed robbers were sighted by his men in an uncompleted building near Atekong Street, Calabar, in the early hours of Wednesday but three ran away when confronted as one was unlucky as he was arrested.

Speaking with newsmen, the armed robbery suspect and final student of Department of Mathematics from Etung Local Government Area of the state claimed that his friend invited him for a club outing in Calabar and that he never knew what he was into before the security operatives picked him up.
