Residents of Iju-Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, who were victims of Dana Airlines’ plane crash may be fully compensated according to aviation laws and regulations.
Indeed, a competent source in the industry said yesterday that residents and landlords who lost property and loved ones during the June 3, 2012, crash had the right to claim above the $100,000 peg for air travellers.
About 20 people on ground died while more than 10 buildings were destroyed when the Dana Airline plane crashed into residential buildings in Iju-Ishaga.
While Dana Airline has begun payment of compensation to families of some passengers on board the plane, nothing much had been done to property owners and those who lost their lives when the plane came down.
But a source in the aviation industry said those who lost their loved ones and property are entitled to claim beyond $100,000.
"They can claim more than $100,000. In fact, their claim is unlimited under the law. But they may have to go to court to claim those rights.
"A property owner may say it cost me N50 million to build my house and the airline may offer N5 million," the source said.
