Kumasi — THE MANAGEMENT of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has announced plans to aggressively pursue a number of interventions to improve the equipment and infrastructure stock of the hospital in order to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

The hospital also intends to strengthen its collaboration with both local and international partners in the training and improvement of its human resource in line with its objective of becoming the Centre of Excellence in health care provision in Ghana and the West Africa sub region.

The Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Prof. Ohene Adjei made the statement at the Annual Thanksgiving Service of the hospital held on Friday.

Prof. Ohene Adjei noted that in spite of the daunting challenges that confronted the hospital last year, a number of successes were achieved in the areas of healthcare delivery, infrastructure, provision of logistics and the improvement of the capacity of staff of the hospital.

In the area of infrastructure and provision of logistics, Prof. Adjei said a 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility was constructed and commissioned whilst the hospital's ultra modern Eye Centre Project had also been completed and will soon be commissioned.

He noted that the hospital also successfully executed the construction of the eight-bedroom Guest House to cater for the accommodation needs of visiting partners of the hospital whilst the perennial water and energy problems were also addressed through the provisions of 9 new jumbo-sized water tanks and 4 heavy duty generators with the capacity of 2,800 KVA to serve as alternative power back-up during outages.

The CEO of KATH noted that the hospital, in 2012, became the first medial training institution in West Africa to produce the first batch of Emergency Physician Specialists and Emergency Nurses through collaborations with the University of Michigan |(USA), and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology respectively.

"Last year, Management, with the support of the Board, instituted a GH¢1,000.00 Medical package for each staff and their family in the view of improving staff members and their families access to quality healthcare" he noted.

Prof. Ohene Adjei, therefore, attributed the success story to God and said the hospital was grateful to the Almighty for his guidance, protection and blessings.
