So what does Forbes want Nigeria to do? Looking at readers reactions to story lines on the Internet, it would rather seem that the unhappiest nation in the world is the United States. No one sees anything good from Obama, Liberals, Conservatives, Government, Taxes, LGBT, Unemployment etc. On the contrary, Nigerians may complain about lack of electricity, water and money, but they just don't sound as unhappy as Americans. Nigerians are more likely to surrender to God and Religion than most people in other nations that are unhappy or poor. The greatest frustration for Nigerians is the poor performance of the Super Eagles, Nigeria's national team, at international football. In fact if Nigerian's are sad, it is this lack of football satisfaction. Football is Nigeria's opium. Unfortunately, no one knows how to bring back the joy. The stadia are empty and there is even no electricity to solace in foreign leagues which they now watch as consolation. They may also not vocalize it, many Nigerians are also not happy about the rising infidelity of Nigerian women. Internally, the men are under more tension than women.
@firsteagledude:
I understand your nationalistic stance -- I probably would have made similar comments if my country were listed. But on the flip side, you're being a complete Bone Head!! In your rant, you didn't even acknowledge that your government is made up of corrupt public officials who live very lavish lives while the masses strive for survival on pennies. Given their actions, do you really have any doubts that Nigeria would rank high on this list?
I wonder how people feel when their six generations of unborn grand children are already in debt because today they live a lavish lifestyle on $16 trillion debt. If the Chinese stopped paying up they will break all sadness records since creation . Nigerian sadness is simply based on unbriddled ambition and nothing more .
I would imagine the magazine ranks sad as being poor and corrupt rather than how high in debts people are. My experience is that from many of the poorer Asian and African countries people are far happier than some dumb yank sitting up to his neck in personal debt and contemplating how the next ten generations are going to pay for the countries debt. Lets face it the USA is bankrupt - it's just that the Americans haven't woken up to the fact yet!
