Child activists in Naivasha have attributed the high number of abused children in the town to hundreds of unemployed people seeking jobs in flower farms.

The activists have expressed concern over a trend in which victims have been spilling into the town's streets. The concerns were raised as Naivas supermarket donated clothes, learning material and food to minors from Monica Memorial Children's Home.

An activist, Esther Njeri, said Naivasha continues to welcome tens of job-seekers on monthly basis. She said many of those who fail to get jobs do not leave.

"Majority of children on the streets belong to families seeking employment and many are undergoing untold suffering," she said. Njeri said high poverty levels had led to rising cases of abused minors especially among families that can not afford three meals per day.
