Updated at: 1701 PST, Wednesday, May 04, 2011 BENGHAZI: Libyan strongman Moamer Kadhafi's forces killed five people on Wednesday when they shelled the strategic port of the besieged city of Misrata, a rebel spokesman told AFP.
"There has been a lot of shelling in Misrata today," said Jalal al-Gallal in Libya's second city of Benghazi where rebels have their headquarters, adding at least five people had been killed.
"I am afraid the number could be far higher than we would like to hear," Gallal said, adding rebels were still trying to verify the total number of casualties for the past 72 hours.
Hundreds have died over the past two months in Misrata, the only major rebel bastion in the Kadhafi-controlled west of the country, which depends entirely on supplies delivered through its lifeline port. (AFP) |
