SCG Museum

The SCG Museum opened its doors to the public in 1977, on the first day of the Third Test between Australia and Pakistan. Prior to the opening, the SCG and Sydney Sports Ground actively collected items, predominantly photographs. Official acquisitions began in 1976.

At its start, the museum was cared for by volunteers and staff. The first Honorary curator, Mr William Hunt, held his position from April 1976 to December 1983. Bill Hunt played eighteen games for New South Wales and one Test for Australia in 1932. Bill's network of colleagues is attributed for the bulk of the museum's current collection. Trust Operations staff looked after the museum in the 1980s and the Properties Department oversaw operations, exhibitions and collection management until 2010.

In 1993, the Spectravision Show was added to the museum, which coincided with the introduction of the Sportspace Tours. From this point on, school groups, sporting clubs, tourists, international travel groups, seniors' outings and other visitors were able to access the museum for tours. This tradition continues today.
