True, he made one proviso: the invitation only applies to Taliban members who are not connected with al-Qaeda. But this proviso means little in practical terms: how is it possible to determine who is and who is not involved with al-Qaeda in a situation where there is not a single Taliban group that has dissociated itself from that organization or at least criticized its terrorist activities.
