Tobacco/vape-free communities are especially important for those that serve populations disproportionately affected by tobacco — including people in low-income communities, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ individuals, women, youth, members of the military, and those with mental illness — who have a long and documented history of being targeted by the tobacco industry.
As of January 2024, 82.4% of the U.S. population is protected by a 100% smoke-free provision in non-hospitality workplaces, and/or restaurants, and/or bars according to the American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation. Only 28 states and territories have enacted comprehensive policies, and only 26 states include e-cigarettes in their policies.
In addition to supporting these policies, we're teaming up with minority-serving academic institutions, community colleges, and women’s colleges through our Tobacco/Vape-free College Program, helping them address smoking, vaping and tobacco use in all forms.
