Pretty decent action movie with an okay plot. Nothing spectacular, but it's not bad.
Just one question: Why do the people inside act like they're starving?
There's a bunch of cows roaming around near the wall. At this point, they don't need to resort to cannibalism anymore.
The only movie where an 80s car police (a Rover) is faster than a Bentley....
I remember seeing this in a quarter full cinema when it was released. There was much laughter and reaction.
Back then, we laughed at the film - its story is novel, its script is simple, it's acting isn't great. And the reactions were mostly in disgust at the gratuitous violence.
I personally quite enjoyed it despite all of that. Maybe Rhona Mitra had me seduced...
Looking back at it now during the 'rona pandemic... and having watched it once more in the years between... I think it's improved with age.
The TV show 'Survivors' by the BBC shares a lot with the feel of this film. Well, the first bit before it goes Robin Hood or is it the bit earlier before it goes 28 Days Later. Anyway, it is enjoyably ridiculous and one of the better films to watch about pandemics to take the sting out of our reality.
7.5/10
It's been a while since I've seen a movie like that in a video store. An apocalyptic Scotland is half medieval half Mad Max. On the other hand, the Bentley car is a motherfucker.
During the first 30 minutes it seems to be a good movie, good action scenes, but I did not like from the middle till the end, they tried to copy Mad Max, not only the ideas of Mad Max but also the characters.
Absolutely ridiculous but absolutely brilliant.
Part of my 2022 Sci-Fi Tuesdays
This sure is something. You take some from the classic 80s movies like Escape from New York and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, mix it up with the likes of the early 2000s 28 Days later, then take a small sip of The Warriors and Army of Darkness, and you get Neil Marshall's little movie, Doomsday.
...and what a treat it is.
If the recipe above didn't turn you onto Doomsday, nothing will. My advice, do yourself a favor and watch it.
Awful dialogs. A plot which makes no sense at all. Terrible, terrible acting. A naked woman. And lots of violence (just carnage and shootings, no action scenes).
That's the first 6 minutes of the movie... and all I was able to endure. Which is 5 minutes more than it deserved, anyway... :persevere:
I thought I was watching this Doomsday movie, when I actually was watching "2012: doomsday", also from 2008. Oh my Lord that other one is crap. So far I still havent seen this one....
This movie is counterintuitive on so many levels. What was the point of the dude saying the tank is nearly indestructible only for it to be destroyed by a metal pole? Why is the military’s plan so idiotic? Nothing about it makes sense . Also the political issues were just silly in this movie. Politicians can be bad but not THAT bad. So many things are just over exaggerated it’s hard to watch. I can’t even find something I enjoy about this.
Absolutely terrible. It has a good cast and possibly decent story (as overused as it is) but the actual movie is terrible.
From an axe breaking APC's window in a single hit, "elite" soldier going and bringing a girl inside an APC against orders and any kind of logic, hundreds of people hiding in a two-story building without noticing them and yet depicting them as savages...
It is plagued by stupid "mistakes", or better called "fuckups" that make the story more "engaging?".
I would highly discourage anyone from watching UNLESS you only want some zombie action without any story, development or common sense
Absolutely awful, embarrassed to say I watched it.
Good cast etc, but it’s beyond reticule
A proudly British post-apocalyptic sci-fi / fantasy / action / adventure flick. Seemed like this one couldn't settle on a specific movie to rip off, so it just grabbed a fistful of mismatched favorites and crammed them all together into one big, horribly jumbled mess. I think it's safe to say this is the first time a film has ever transitioned from Outbreak to 28 Days Later to Children of Men to Escape From New York to Lord of the Rings to Gladiator before finally settling in with Mad Max for the grand finale.
By its third shift in cast, setting and theme, I'd written the whole thing off and was content to just sit back and enjoy the train wreck. If you've ever been browsing the shelves and thought to yourself "I'm really in the mood for a cannibalistic, choreographed, ska-based dance number set in the charred remains of the Thunderdome," well, look no further. High marks for the visuals, though, which were about the only reason anyone should give this one a second thought.

Far from Hollywood political correctness mix of Underworld, Resident Evil and Mad Max... not as bad as for English production :)
