Description[]
Executed by pressing Medium Punch and Medium Kick simultaneously, Birdie puts some chewing gum in his mouth and swallows it. This move can be performed while standing or crouching. By holding Medium Punch and Medium Kick, he blows up a bubble. From here, Birdie has access to a couple of different follow-ups:
- Blow Bubble - Executed by pressing kick while blowing up a bubble, Birdie blows into the bubble a bit more, making it bigger. He can increase the size of the bubble up to two times.
- Bubble Gum - Executed by pressing punch while blowing up a bubble, Birdie releases the gum toward his opponent like a projectile. The strength of the punch button pressed determines trajectory of the bubble gum. Pressing Light Punch immediately pops the bubble. The Medium version sends the bubble in an arc that hits the ground and pops at about halfscreen. The Heavy version has an arc that reaches about 3/4 of the screen.
Tactics[]
Chewing Time serves as both a defensive and offensive tool. While it does take quite a while for it to perform, Birdie can build V-Meter the same way as he did with his first V-Skill. Simply tapping Medium Punch and Medium Kick builds about 1/6 of Birdie's V-Gauge. While he's keeping his opponent at a distance with his mid-range normals and special attacks, he can cancel into his second V-Skill to have quicker access to his V-Trigger.
By holding Medium Punch and Medium Kick, Birdie blows up a bubble that can serve as a shield against other projectiles. When the hitbox of a fireball collides with the bubble, it cancels each other out, allowing him to build V-Meter. While having the bubble in front of him, Birdie can still move forward or backwards. However, while he has access to the bubble, Birdie cannot jump, forward/back dash, or block any physical attacks. In fact, he is vulnerable in a Counter Hit state while the bubble is active. If his opponent manages to jump over him, Birdie remains facing the same direction until he releases the bubble.
Utilizing the follow-up attacks that comes with this V-Skill can make Birdie even more dangerous.
Blowing Bubble[]
Pressing any kick button makes the bubble grow bigger. Increasing the bubble's size also increases its hitbox. Birdie can protect himself against any projectile. In addition, the size of the bubble determines how powerful the projectile is. The bigger the bubble, the more damage it inflicts and the more V-Meter Birdie builds.
Bubble Gum[]
This is Birdie's main attack with the bubble. Pressing any punch button releases and pops the bubble. However, each version of Bubble Gum can amplify his offense. The Light version pops the bubble immediately, giving him a decent follow-up at close-range. It is a good anti-air attack if his opponent tries to jump over him. It is also very safe on block. Birdie is +9 on block while using Bubble Gum while standing and +4 while crouching. Birdie can build V-Meter with the Light version, but only if the bubble makes contact with the opponent.
The Medium and Heavy versions travel toward the opponent in an arcing trajectory. He can perform this move while standing or crouching, giving Birdie four different launch angles. Similar to Dhalsim's Yoga Fire or Kolin's Hailstorm, the bubble sails over other projectiles as it approaches the opponent. While the bubble itself doesn't move fast across the screen, it can potentially begin or extend some of Birdie's combos. With the assist from the bubble, Birdie has more ways to inflict heavy damage while carrying his opponent closer toward the corner.
