From smartphones to washing machines, Ceconomy offers a wide range of consumer electronics devices and household appliances. Headquartered in Düsseldorf, Ceconomy’s journey started with the Metro Group, which was founded in 1966 and operated business membership-only cash and carry stores. In 2016, Metro reorganized its business units, with retailers like MediaMarkt and Saturn being incorporated into Ceconomy. Today, the company is one of the leading consumer electronics retailers in Europe and operates in various countries, such as Germany, Austria, and Spain, with stores named Saturn and MediaMarkt, and Italy, where customers can purchase their favorite devices at MediaWorld.
Furthermore, Ceconomy operates through various channels: retail stores and online. In recent years, Ceconomy’s online sales increased, totaling over five million euros in their 2021/22 financial year. Nonetheless, retail stores still attract customers, where they can see, try, and purchase devices and products in almost 1,000 stores within Europe, with around 400 of them located in Germany in 2022.
Stable sales for Ceconomy
Over the last decade, Ceconomy’s sales have remained somewhat stable, amounting to just under 22 million euros in their 2021/2022 financial year. As mentioned above, the company is active in various European countries, with the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) accounting for over half of the firm’s revenue, followed by western and southern Europe.Furthermore, Ceconomy operates through various channels: retail stores and online. Ceconomy faces strong competition
In the global and European consumer electronics market, Ceconomy faces the likes of other consumer electronics retailers, examples of which are Best Buy, Dixons, and Amazon, with the Best Buy being the leader in the industry totaling revenues of almost 52 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. Yet, Ceconomy is popular among consumers in European countries. For instance, 30 percent of German customers shop at Saturn and MediaMarkt, while 16 percent of Italians purchase their electronic devices and household appliances at MediaWorld.
