In 2019, approximately 21.4 million metric tons were transported by rail in Spain, which represented a decrease of about 11 percent compared to 2018 rail freight traffic in the country. Rail freight volumes peaked in 2007, the beginning of the reporting period, and have been fluctuating since then.
