At the end of fiscal year 2023, the Wholesale Price Index of steel pipes and tubes across India was 140. This meant an increase in the WPI of 40 percent from the base year of 2012. India was the second largest steel producer in the world during the same period just after China.

The Wholesale Price Index or WPI determines the price of wholesale goods, focusing on trade between corporations rather than goods bought by consumers. WPI monitors the movements of supply and demand in industry, manufacturing and construction.
India's financial year begins in April and ends in March. For example, FY 2016 started in April 2015 and ended in March 2016.
