In 2021, Austria's hot rolled steel production amounted to approximately seven million metric tons, representing a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year. In the period of consideration, the production of such products mainly increased until 2017, when the highest production level was recorded at around 8 million metric tons. The manufacturing volume of hot rolled steel products decreased gradually in the following two years.

During the process of hot rolling steel the material gets rolled at temperatures above the steel's re-crystallization temperature. At this temperature steel can be easily shaped and formed.
