In Sweden, the most popular field of study among both male and female doctoral (PhD) students is medicine and health studies. In 2023, nearly 4,000 women and 2,450 men took their PhD in this subject. Moreover, whereas social sciences is the second most common field of study among female PhD students, natural sciences is the second most popular among male PhD students.
