In 2022, final demand of primary and secondary energy use in Canada amounted to some 8.58 exajoules, down from roughly 8.24 exajoules from in previous year. In the period of consideration, figures fluctuated, peaking at almost nine exajoules in 2019. Between 2009 and 2022, figures presented a net increase. Currently, hydroelectricity accounts for over half of Canada's total electric generation.
