Most popular online platforms among teenagers in Germany 2019
Triple threat
As seen here, the competition is divided between three main online platforms. YouTube is mostly used to view music videos among German girls and boys alike, followed by watching funny clips and comedy videos made by other YouTubers. Meanwhile, WhatsApp was by far the most important smartphone app for teenagers in Germany. Instagram belonged to apps used for daily or weekly online activity.
Glued to the screen?
German teens spent an average of 205 minutes online a day – this compared to 134 minutes back in 2009. Of course, the rise of mobile technology contributes extensively to this development, as a person doesn’t need to be seated in front of a PC to go online anymore. Teenagers also primarily used the internet for communication.
