British public opinion on Russian and Belarusian athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics
In the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, adults in Great Britain were asked for their opinions on the eligibility of Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the 2024 Games. It was found that the most commonly held opinion was that athletes from these countries should not be allowed to compete at all, with a share of 38 percent of respondents.
In 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided that Russian and Belarusian athletes would be allowed to compete at the Paris 2024 Games, however only under the guise of Athlètes Individuels Neutres (AIN). Any mention or representation of either Russia or Belarus was banned. Furthermore, any athletes with ties to security services or who publicly supported the war in Ukraine were automatically disqualified from participating in the Games.
