Global public transport revenues dipped during the COVID-19 pandemic, falling as low as 209 billion U.S. dollars in 2020. In 2023, revenues had risen back to 280 billion U.S. dollars and are projected to continue growing slowly at between two and three percent per year until 2029.

Data excludes tickets for long-distance public transportation with nationwide travel offers; private transportation; and freight transportation.
