The most common type of poverty facing the world's 1.1 billion poor is a lack of access to clean cooking fuel. As of 2020-2022, 990 million were forced to cook with solid fuels such as wood and coal. The second most common type of poverty was a lack of access to proper housing, a problem that faced over 880 million poor people. On the other hand, child mortality was the problem that faced the lowest number of poor people.

The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) examines poverty in the world across several different dimensions. Data is collected through household surveys in 110 developing countries worldwide representing 6.1 billion people.
