Many lawmakers seeking reelection in the United States 2022 midterm elections are dependent on money raised by Political Action Committees (PACs). The top Republican lawmaker – Brett Guthrie of Kentucky – has so far been reliant on PAC money for 71.8 percent of his total fundraising. The top ten lawmakers are reliant on PACs for at least three fifths of their total funding.
In U.S. politics, a PAC is an organization that gathers campaign contributions from members and donates those funds to campaigns for the purpose of electing or defeating a candidate running for office. Most PACs represent business, or ideological interests.
