As of 2022, about 44 percent of GDP attributable to cities worldwide, amounting to about 31 trillion U.S. dollars, was estimated to be at either high or moderate risk to nature loss. Disruptions to economic activities resulting from nature and biodiversity loss is estimated to affect a significant share of the GDP attributable to cities as urban centers are home to many downstream sectors and activities including transport, utilities, and retail.
